Spring-Green Welcomes Newest Franchise Owner Dan Hillenbrand

Hillenbrand has long possessed an entrepreneurial drive. “Since I was 10 years old, I’ve been thinking about what business I wanted to own and run,” he explained. For five years, while in college, he operated his own lawn maintenance business. He sold it after graduation and began working with a franchise of Scott’s Lawn Service in Colorado. A move back to Oklahoma City in 2007 led Hillenbrand to employment with two other lawn care related companies before moving back to Scott’s corporate side.

The purchase of Scott’s by TruGreen led Hillenbrand to rethink his future. An interview with Spring-Green for a business consultant position evolved into him assuming ownership of an existing territory in Oklahoma City. “I realized I didn’t want to move to Chicago, and RJ knew the Edmund territory might be for sale,” Hillenbrand recalled of that early meeting. “For the past 10 years, I’ve been managing guys treating lawns, so it was an easy transition. But the whole time I was at Scott’s, I was thinking of different ways to make that jump.”

Hillenbrand’s wife of 15 years, Candice, and his two daughters, ages 7 and 11, are supportive of his decision to join Spring-Green. Purchasing an existing business, and not having to start from zero, was ideal for the stage Hillenbrand and his family are in now. “It was the perfect fit, in a reasonable price range, the perfect area, the perfect set up and the perfect backing from Spring-Green. It’s a no brainer, and I think it’s going to work really well.”

I know the area, I know the industry.” Hillenbrand concluded, “I never wanted to work for someone else, I’ve really only been happy when I’m working for myself.”
